Hi Ray
Thank you for a great day yesterday. As always it was well organised with good food at Elgro. The top cases issue is a bit worrying as someone really could get hurt. Maybe you need to ask participants who have the wrong equipment (measured by the numbers you quote below) to remove the top cases before the ride. All in all though a really fun day spent with like minded people.

Subject: APPRECIATION – RIDE THE CRATER 22/8/’10
Greetings All,
On behalf of all at Cytech/TFA, Alain Morard and I would like to sincerely thank you for your interest in participating on the “Ride the Crater” on Sunday morning.
The Participants were a great group of riders, who were all seen to be having a good time and great ride.
Some unfortunate minor thrills and spills were part of the mornings ride with the odd motorcycle and rider/s displaying some new “character and ego scratches”.
The rider/s that became over excited and carried away in the height of the moment and made contact with terra firma and were unfortunately injured (ego or bodily) we all wish a speedy recovery with a clear message saying “respect your motorcycle because if you don’t it can seriously hurt you”
For the riders who unknowingly dropped a few “missiles” (top cases) off the back of their motorcycles, either spend a few extra rands and purchase a good quality Hepco & Becker Top Case (and lock it) rather than a BMW OE plastic type which if not actually bolted onto the motorcycle and dislodges because of an inferior locking system without you knowing, will become a projectile which could possibly kill someone or cause a serious accident
The count to – date of BMW OE Top Cases dislodging from motorcycles on our organized trips totals 186
In no way being disrespectful the rider who did not lock his Hepco & Becker Top Case onto his motorcycle causing it to unknowingly dismount and just about take a BMW R1200GS Adventure out, unfortunately negatively affects Hepco & Becker’s highly respected name and credibility because of the very unfortunate (understanding and respecting that maturing age is also taking its toll on our memories) oversight of not locking it onto the motorcycle
The novice riders truly excelled themselves and the riders who originally feared dirt/gravel and thick sand riding have no more major concerns as their fears have somewhat been overcome…………………all I can say is respect!!
We are fully aware that some of the maturing bodies may have been a bit stiff/sensitive and/or downright sore this morning, but as they say “what boys won’t do for fun”
We are sure that a lot was learnt by several of the riders, personal riding confidence boosted to a new level and new friendships were made.
If you achieved the listed facts, learned more about the extreme capabilities of your own Motorcycle, had great fun, pushed your limited, acknowledge how capable you actually are just given the push and got your adrenalin pumping, we at Cytech and our Team achieved the “Ride the Crater” objectives.
We would greatly respect your written feedback either good or bad to improve on things that may not have been up to standard. Kindly copy the other riders in as well with your comments
Hope to see you on this weekend’s “Ride Africa” on the 29th August ’10 at our venue in Fochville which will take you to new destinations in deepest darkest Africa or the 5 Day Zimbabwe/Mozambique Recce Run planned for early September
Once again thank you for your participation and valued support
Look forward to hearing from you
Best regards,
Ray Muller
